Start here

One universe. A few ways in.

Which story should I start with?

Choose the experience that appeals to you: Subsumption is the best starting point if you enjoy world-building; Coverted is a good first stop for action and mystery; and Disclosure is a quick read to see whether Luciano’s style fits your tastes. Apotheosis can also be your introduction to the universe through its free serialized chapters. Every story is written to stand alone.

Want a taste first? Get the first seven chapters of Subsumption.

Do I need to read the stories in order?

Each story stands alone. Reading the others adds context and can sometimes transform your interpretation of what you have already read. You can begin with the story that interests you most.

For a prequel-first route through the original published stories, follow Coverted → Disclosure → Subsumption. For the new story cluster, the recommended order is Apotheosis → Seven Scars → 6F Sentient Street. Explore the universe map and current roadmap for the connections.

What is the Universae Arcana?

The Universae Arcana is the shared fictional universe connecting Luciano’s Subsumption Series and Lindsay Egginton’s Sitaria Series. Apotheosis and its companion novellas belong to the Subsumption side of that universe. You can follow either series independently: each half stands on its own and gains additional meaning from its complementary half.

Are Coverted, Disclosure, and Subsumption all novels?

Coverted is a novella. Disclosure is a short story. Subsumption is a full-length novel. They offer different-sized entry points into the same connected world. Browse the Books page for descriptions and editions.

Why does a retailer list the books in a different order?

Retailer series numbers do not always follow story chronology. Some catalogs label Subsumption as Book 1 and the two prequels as later entries. If you want the prequel-first route, follow the titles: Coverted, Disclosure, then Subsumption.

Is the title Coverted or Converted?

It’s Coverted, without the “n.” Search for Coverted by Luciano W. Pesci, or go straight to the book’s page.

What to expect

Strange worlds. Familiar human problems.

What kind of science fiction are these stories?

Expect alien conspiracies, dangerous technology, psychological suspense, and people making difficult choices under pressure. Family loyalties and questions about power, identity, and trust sit alongside the science-fiction ideas explored in the original author’s note. The tone varies: Coverted follows teenagers through a dangerous initiation, Disclosure centers on first contact, and Subsumption explores an alien research program.

Why does Subsumption move between everyday life and simulated experiences?

The simulations, called Sequences, are central to Marcus’s involvement in the alien research program. The novel moves between those experiences and his life outside them. Watch for the Sequence labels and date headings as you read; they help orient you as the story changes setting and time. The blog’s guide to Subsumption’s technology explains Brad’s Lab and the equipment used in the experiments.

Is Subsumption nonstop action?

Expect a mix of tension, immersive Sequences, world-building, and personal relationships. The novel spends time exploring its ideas and Marcus’s life between the experiments. The opening-chapter sample is a good way to decide whether its style and pace suit you.

Are these suitable for younger readers?

Young protagonists and game imagery should not be taken as an all-ages rating. The stories include violence, coercion, and difficult family relationships; Subsumption also includes sexual content. For a particular sensitivity or a younger reader, ask about the specific book before choosing it.

What inspired the Subsumption Series?

Economics, history, technology, and human behavior all feed the stories—especially questions about choice, observation, and the institutions shaping people’s lives. Books, films, and music are part of the mix, too. Influences discussed on the blog include Ender’s Game, 1984, Strange Days, Seven Lions, and Nine Inch Nails.

Start with Why I Wrote Subsumption for the ideas and personal journey behind the novel. For specific creative connections, explore Red Herrings and Inspiration and The Sounds of Subsumption, which also includes the series playlist. Those last two posts contain plot spoilers.

Will I enjoy these if I like Ender’s Game or Stranger Things?

Those comparisons point to themes and atmosphere: young people under pressure, unsettling institutions, hidden agendas, and extraordinary experiences. Each story has its own voice and structure. Try the opening-chapter sample to see whether the particular mix works for you. After reading, explore Red Herrings and Inspiration and The Sounds of Subsumption for the books, films, and music behind the series. Both posts contain plot spoilers.

Books & audio

Pick your story. Pick your format.

Which formats can I buy directly?

The shop lists ebook and audiobook editions of Coverted, Disclosure, and Subsumption. A signed print edition of Subsumption is also listed, with paperback and hardcover options. Check the individual product page for current availability.

Can I read an ebook bought here on my Kindle, Kobo, phone, or tablet?

Yes. The shop’s ebooks are delivered through BookFunnel, which provides instructions for supported reading devices and apps. Open the access link emailed to the address you used at checkout and follow the instructions for your device. For Kindle, see BookFunnel’s Send to Kindle guide.

You can also read in the BookFunnel app on a supported phone or tablet. You do not need to install that app on your Kindle or Kobo e-reader. If a download or transfer gets stuck, BookFunnel reader support can help.

How do I listen to an audiobook bought here? Will it appear in Audible?

BookFunnel emails your audiobook access link to the address you used at checkout. Follow that link to listen through the BookFunnel app on a supported device.

A purchase from this website does not automatically appear in your Audible library. Audible does not import audiobooks bought elsewhere; use BookFunnel for this purchase. For listening or download help, visit BookFunnel reader support.

Who narrates the audiobooks, and how long are they?

Zachary Johnson narrates all three published audiobooks. Approximate listening times are 3 hours 52 minutes for Coverted, 1 hour 20 minutes for Disclosure, and 13 hours 54 minutes for Subsumption. Listings can vary slightly by edition. The audiobook announcement shares how Zachary was selected and how the characters’ voices were developed.

How do signed copies work, and how long do they take?

Luciano signs every copy by hand—and gives each one a kiss before sending it on its way. The signed edition of Subsumption is available in paperback and hardcover.

Please allow two weeks for signing and processing before shipment. Carrier delivery time is additional. Checkout currently offers shipping to U.S. addresses; for another destination, contact Luciano before ordering.

Where can I buy unsigned print copies and other retailer editions?

Unsigned print copies are available through retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Retailers also carry ebook and audiobook editions, with formats and availability varying by title and store. Browse Luciano’s retailer links on Books2Read to choose a store and available format.

The website shop offers ebooks, audiobooks, and personally signed print copies.

Can I try the books before buying?

Yes. Request the first seven chapters of Subsumption through the reader signup page. You can also start Apotheosis with Chapter 1 on Substack.

New stories

The universe is still expanding.

What is Apotheosis about?

Set in 1991, Apotheosis follows Dante Stasio, a troubled boy drawn into a conspiracy involving his family and abilities he does not understand. It opens an earlier chapter of the Subsumption universe. It is written to stand alone and can be your first story in the universe. Read Chapter 1 free on Substack.

How do Seven Scars and 6F Sentient Street fit in?

The recommended reading order is Apotheosis → Seven Scars → 6F Sentient Street. The two novellas add connected perspectives after the novel. All three stories are written to stand alone, while reading them together can deepen or change your understanding of each. The announcement and roadmap introduce all three stories.

Are the serialized chapters free, and are they finished versions?

Yes—the chapters of Apotheosis, Seven Scars, and 6F Sentient Street are being shared free as they are serialized. The aim is to reach new readers and give those who want a closer view a way to follow the stories as they develop.

These are pre-publication drafts, even when a chapter has already been through editing. Please read them as works in progress: wording, details, and other elements may change before the finished editions. Start with Chapter 1 of Apotheosis.

Will the free chapters stay online after the books are published?

Luciano intends to keep the serialized chapters online indefinitely in their pre-publication form, unless circumstances require their removal. That policy covers Apotheosis and both companion novellas.

Whether future stories will continue on Substack after Apotheosis, Seven Scars, and 6F Sentient Street is still undecided. Follow the blog for announcements.

When will Apotheosis be released?

The announced target is February 8, 2028, in print, ebook, and audiobook. That date applies to Apotheosis; the novellas follow separately. Visit the current roadmap for updates.

Is the series finished? What happened to Guardians?

The series is continuing. Guardians remains in the plans, but Apotheosis and its companion novellas now come first. The updated series roadmap explains how the plans changed.

Where can I follow the new chapters?

Start Apotheosis with Chapter 1: Convenience Betrays on Substack. The plan is to share a new chapter each month, with Seven Scars and 6F Sentient Street following the novel. The current roadmap explains the schedule, and the blog carries broader book news and production updates.

05

Reader support

For the mysteries outside the books.

Are the website newsletter and Substack the same subscription?

They are separate signup destinations. Use the website’s reader list for book news and free-story offers, and subscribe on Substack if you want to follow the serialized posts there. Subscribing in one place does not automatically confirm a subscription in the other.

I signed up for a free download. What should I check?

Look for the delivery or confirmation email, including in spam or promotions. If a confirmation link is included, click it to complete the signup. If you still cannot find the download, contact us and mention which book you requested.

I need help with an order or a download. Who should I contact?

For an order placed on this website, use the contact form and include the order number, book title, and what went wrong. If your delivery email is from BookFunnel, visit BookFunnel’s reader help page for download and device support. For a purchase from another retailer, start with that retailer’s order-support service.

How can I get involved with the reader community?

The goal is a Discord community where readers can join the advance-reader group, help the street team spread the word, or simply watch the series unfold from a closer vantage point.

If you would like to take part, contact Luciano about joining the reader community. You can also follow the free chapters on Substack and the author blog.

How can I leave a review or ask a question?

An honest review on your retailer or Goodreads helps other readers decide whether a book is for them. Please mark plot spoilers. For a direct question or to report a typo, use the contact form.

Still have a question?

Make first contact. For book questions, order help, or a typo that escaped containment, send a message.
